Hi friend,
This week, Governor Ferguson signed a new operating budget that will raise $9 billion in revenue over 4 years, and much of that revenue comes from making wealthy businesses and the super rich pay what they owe. That’s $9 billion that can go toward education, housing, and healthcare across our state.
Our movement deserves a lot of credit for this progress. Together, we:
- Sent more than 67,000 emails to lawmakers and the Governor
- Signed in “pro” nearly 5,000 times for legislation
- Showed up in a HUGE way for in-person rallies and town halls
These numbers are impressive – and let’s not forget why they’re important.
As I told the Seattle Times, “Every dollar spent on services like education, child care, housing, and health care, has an impact on peoples’ lives. These are not just numbers on a spreadsheet.”
Thank you for showing up this year and making a difference.
Make no mistake, though, there is still plenty of work to do to fix our broken tax code. Right now, lawmakers at the national level are making headlines with their plans to gut federal programs like Medicaid just so they can give yet another massive tax cut to America’s billionaires. Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to push back on these harmful cuts.
In solidarity,
Treasure
